|
| |
Our patternmaking course starts with us showing you how to take the necessary measurements to make a sloper and pattern.. Since bodies come in all shapes and sizes, store bought patterns which are made for the average person does not fit 97% of the individuals who buy them. If you can sew and would like to have the perfect pattern we'll show you how. Great fit does not require the perfect body, but, rather, accurate, correct measurements.
This is what you will learn:
-
How to accurately determine your correct size
-
Why size doesn't really matter.
-
How to determine perfect ease each time you make a garment.
-
How to accurately and correctly take measurements.
-
How to make sure the front and back is balanced and what balancing means.
-
Determine that the pattern will fit before cutting into the fabric-this is important.

The Perfect Pants
|
| |
It cannot be stressed too many times-accurate body measurements are the key to a perfect fit. If you want perfect-fitting pants, we will guide you through the steps of making your own sloper, or we'll make it for you, from your own unique set of measurements. Avoid the dressing room dilemma of gaping waist, too-tight hips and saggy seats by having your pants custom made. Have it made or make your own. The question is, do you need this service. You need this service
- If your pants wrinkle at the hipline up through the waist
- If your pants waist pull down at the front or back when you sit.
- If it wrinkle at the crotch line.
- Or, you have a protruding stomach.
If your pants sags or always feels tight in the seat then you have fitting challenges and need custom made patterns or pants.

Determining Correct Fit / Taking Measurements
|
| |
The success of a design is not in how beautiful it looks, but in how well it fits. The true fit of a garment begins with the pattern. The pattern that's made for you is going to look right on you.
Most patterns are made for the average figure, which is the hip 2 inches larger than the bust with a waist 8 inches smaller, perfectly proportioned at 5 feet 7 inches. that's only 3% of the american population. What's the other 97% of us to do? We could make our own patterns, find a custom clothier who knows patternmaking or knows a patternmaker.
The first thing you want to know is your figure type; say you are average height but you have a long/short waist, full/small bust, long/short legs, full/flat seat, high /low bust the average will not fit you. We'll guide you through the process of taking and recording accurate body measurements.

Wardrobe Planning
|
| |
Planning a wardrobe that expresses your best look is our goal. do you often feel you don't know what to wear? Have you often said, "I have nothing to wear", even with a closet full of clothes? Do you welcome some seasons but dread others? If you went to your closet right now, what percentage of the clothes there would be clothes you have worn only once?
There's an old Australian Aboriginal saying that I read somewhere that sums it up very neatly, and it is so true. It says, "The more you know, the less you need". A total wardrobe should be one that takes you from day into night, from one season to the next, from work to play and anything in-between. With the perfect wardrobe, you'll never be caught off guard; but will always have something to wear, something beautiful, something right but also right for you.
The first and probably most important step is style. this brings to mind some questions such as, What fits? What do I need? What do I like? What do I have? And how do I make the most of this? When you have answered these questions you will have the foundation for planning your perfect wardrobe.
The next step is the elements of style which factors in, color, line and form, and texture. Your unique BODY type, Personality, lifestyle, proportion and Scale
To complete your plan for the perfect wardrobe step 3 entails the clothes. how you choose, mix and use the clothes. This step takes you from underwear to outerwear. Know that, having the correct foundation is as essential as having a perfectly functional investment wardrobe. Understanding the important quality points of developing a personal style and the appropriateness of what you wear and how it fits the season, the occasion, but most importantly, your body type.
The most important consideration in getting your wardrobe should be value, not cost, but value. You should have a dress code, (too many dress-down days). the core wardrobe pieces, which are essentially the building blocks to style, and last but by no means, is color and versatility.
The core wardrobe consists of five essential pieces that can be interchanged or worn seperately. The most important factor is to know your best color and choose the best fabric you can afford. These five pieces becomes the staple or the backbone of any woman's wardrobe. The little black dress, a well-tailored softly structured jacket, the pencil skirt, the pants and a well made shirt; preferably in white cotton, linen, or a good blend.
